Top tips for moving house in 2018

Are you thinking about moving house next year? If the thought of moving all your belongings makes you miserable, this post is for you. Moving house doesn’t need to be a stressful experience, so we’ve got some top tips to make the experience much easier for all involved:

Start early

Begin making lists and going through your belongings at least six weeks before you have to move. Things you don’t often use like out-of-season clothes and seasonal decorations can be packed now.

Schedule drop-offs to local donation points or charities. Begin posting things you’d like to sell online so you have enough time to get a decent price for them and you’re not left scrambling at the last minute.
This is also when you’ll want to decide if you need a large truck or a man with a van for your move. Get in touch with Shiply to get a quote for your move.

Stay Organized

One of the best things you can do to make your move go smoothly? Stay as organized as you possibly can. Label every box with the room it will go in and what’s inside. That way it can be moved straight to the right room when you’re unpacking and you can see at a glance if it contains the things you need without having to open it up.

It’s also a good idea to use bright tape to represent each room or to let movers know if it contains something fragile. You may want to number your boxes so you can easily see if you’re missing a number once you get to your new house.

Pack Smart

Before you purchase any boxes, look for large containers, duffel bags, laundry boxes, and suitcases you already have. That way, you’ll minimise how much trash you have after your move, and you’ll cut down on the number of trips you need to make. You can easily move clothes while they’re still in your dresser drawers, and you can even cover hanging clothes with a heavy duty trash bag- simply use a rubber band to tie hangers together and cover them with a bag.

Prepare the other side

Spend a day organizing your new home before you move in. If it’s completely clean and you have an idea of where you want things to go, you can easily put everything away straight away once you move. This is also the best time to do things like giving it a coat of paint or installing shelving.

Thank you so much for sharing this amazing article. Most mortgages are portable, meaning that you can transfer them from the property that you originally borrowed against to the home to which you want to move.

This is some really good information about moving. My sister and her husband are going to be moving later this month. So, I liked your suggestion about labeling everything. It is also good to know that they should write what room each box goes with as well.
