With the new year just beginning and the house likely to be in a bit of a state from all the festive shenanigans, it is the perfect time to start making new year’s resolutions for your home. As usual, the best resolutions are the ones are the easiest, that’s why I have teamed up with BUILT/ to round up the most basic of tasks, that are guaranteed to improve your home.
Fix draughts and holes
With a few more months of the winter months to come, there’s no better time to patch up gaps and areas where the cold wind seems to find its way in to the home. Some filler, drylining or even just a draught excluder can go a long way in the future, especially if we’re in for a wet and humid summer.
Check and replace your alarms
Now that your house is finally present free, and all the turkey has been devoured, it’s worth checking your fire alarms. Although I know it can be a pain to unscrew all your alarms, it is always worth checking at this vital time of the year.
If your fire and burglar home security alarms aren’t working, or you feel as if you could benefit from more, you should consider buying some cheap fire detectors that you can screw up around the home or add another cheap window alarm or two. A dummy security camera is always a cheap alternative to keeping any intruders are bay.
Get yourself some bricks
With the summer and spring creeping up, no doubt you have looked at your garden with hopes of a sunny summer. So why not start to build your perfect summer spot now? Maybe a barbeque pit, some patio steps, or even just a simple border for plants – something nice to keep things looking more appealing when the nice weather comes around.
If bricks aren’t your style, you could always use some timber to build up some nice wooden fences or borders around plants, or even make a simple bench you can soak up the sun on.
Refresh your inventory
The start of the year is a great time to fill up with new tools or house hood appliance that you have either has seen better days or you lost over the last 365 days. Hand tools, builder’s tools, bricks, plaster, power tools, batteries– whatever you’re missing, now’s the time to get it, just as fresh stock arrives, and with the weather so cold outside there is plenty of buildings materials online to choose from!
