I know that there is a lot of controversy on the Alexa Rank and how accurate it is or isn’t, and while I do have a toolbar that let’s me see the Alexa ranking of the websites that I visit -but I always take the ratings with a pinch of salt. While I love to see my blogs Alexa ratings constantly improving, I definitely do not lose any sleep over it as there are a lot of flaws to their system.

That being said, you can definitely learn a lot about your visitors from Alexa, and I believe that these statistics will help you target your blog posts towards the demographic of readers that your blog attracts.

The statistics that I am talking about are in the Demographic Tab of your Alexa site information page:

This Is The Demographics That Will Help Target Your Blog Posts:

Having these visitor demographics allows me to know my audience better allowing me to target my blog posts towards those who actually read my blog. Let’s take a close look at each of demographic and see how it can help first with StandOutBlogger.com and the for your blog.

Age

Knowing the age groups that are popular on your blog is very helpful when you are looking at blog topics, and more importantly the direction of those blog topics.

Take a post of ‘Twitter’ for example:

Since StandOutBlogger.com has quite a young visitor demographic, with the majority of my readers being under 34, it would be safe to say that the majority of you have a decent understand of how Twitter works by now – because younger people are more inclined to adapting to new technologies quicker than older people. So if I was writing a post on ‘Twitter’ it would be an intermediate level, looking into tools and features that could be used to enhance my readers Twitter experience.

Whereas if I had an older audience for my blog, I would definitely start with some of the basics of Twitter, with tutorials on ‘Getting Started With Twitter’ or ‘Using Twitter To Connect With Your Family’.

Gender

Gender should definitely play a huge part in the the way that you write your blog posts as men and women have very different ways of reading and comprehending. Now when I look at StandOutBlogger I notice that I have a much higher rate of male readers compared to female readers. This could be because females would prefer to learn from other women or it could just be my writing style. But what it does allow me to do is look at my blog and make the decision to try and attract more women as readers or continue to focus on my male readers.

Education

While their isn’t too much difference between the education levels of my readers, it does let me know that a lot of my bloggers are either in college or have never been. This let’s me know that my readers will be more inclined to wanting to make money online to supplement their income and hopefully become full-time online marketers.

There are a lot of things that you can learn from a persons education level and know this allows you to not only write for the majority of your readers but also change your writing style to try and gain more visitors from those in education levels that are not ranking as high.

Browsing Location

I would hope that the majority of my visitors are browsing from home as most do not go to college and they shouldn’t be browsing during work hours! So this one didn’t surprise me at all. The thing that I like about the majority of my readers browsing from home is that they have longer to read, meaning that my posts can be longer and they won’t have to leave halfway though.

Has Children

What is the benefits of knowing if your readers have children? Maybe they are more cautious because they have to provide for a family. Or possibly they are stay at home mums interested in ways to make money from home because they don’t want to stick their children in day care.

This is a fantastic way to hone in on who is reading your blog so you know how to target your articles to suit them. If you are looking to take your blog up to a new level then you may want to take a look at your blogs alexa demographics to see who is actually visiting your blog – you may be surprised!
