In Limbo
Hey guys,
I’m sorry for the lack of posts especially as my rss count continues to rise! I feel like I have hit a place where I am standing in limbo trying to work out which way I want to head in life – In so many different areas.
First of all, while I have loved blogging and seeing this blog grow, the most I could ever make from it was $200 in one month – when I was putting about 50-70 hours into it. I struggle to justify the time spent. Especially considering I have started a new commission based job at my brothers business and have made over $1,000 in the first week. I guess you just have to weigh up the options and see if things are worthwhile, dig deep down and try to work out what you really want from you life and where you are going to get it from.
My second dilema is that my girlfriend and I have applied for positions are leaders at a kids summer camp in Canada, and if we are accepted then we will be away from the end of June for over 2 months -and the likelyhood of me being able to find time to post is pretty slim. We are currently just waiting for a final phone interview before we find out if we are accepted.
So I have found myself in a position of what to do with this blog. I mean, I have made so many friends and learnt so much in the time I have run it, but some times you have to let things go -and right now I have to decided if that is what I really want to do with this blog.
There are the options that I can think of:
- Just let it slowly die from lack of posting
I really don’t like this option as it wastes all of the effort that I have put into it. - Post just a couple of times a month to keep it going
The idea is to kinda keep it tickig til I find more time and motivation to try and build this blog into something great. The only thing I don’t like with this option is the fact that it just seems to be buying time before I find myself back at the first option. - Post & Market Hard Til Canada – And Sell
I know that quality blogs can sell for quite a bit of money if they are profitable, so this option is to blog consistently and look for ways to build my revenue so that I can get my blog to a quality level at the beginning of June to start looking for buyers who may be interested in taking this blog to the next level.
As long term readers, you have a vested interest in what happens with this blog. So I would love to hear your thoughts and comments! What would you like to see happen with StandOutBlogger?

How about inviting any talented blogger/s to come on board and be a regular contributor?
Whatever decision you make at the end, I hope it’ll be the right one and best interest for standoutblogger :-)
I’m with Salwa here. That 4th option sounds better than the three listed by you :P
Anyways, I wanted to tell you that whatever you do, it’ll be fine. Just take some time to think about it, and take the right decision!
Keep blogging. Your is a nice blog. We do not want it to die.You have reached 1000 readers. If you leave them in middle of nowhere, it won’t be good.
If you too busy to be blogging. I have an idea. Should I contact you by email?
I agree and Ikki, you coould come up with an alternative.
Salwa’s idea seems to be to invite guest bloggers, which I think would work really well for you. I know Jason from TUK has done that, and it seemed to work well. With over 1000 subscribers, they won’t mind having some guestposts, and you might be able to invite a few bigger bloggers to your site which will give you traffic, plus other guest posters benefit as well.
If that is not a good plan, you could post a lot now, and gradually reduce it a little for your trip, and then post a few times a month only with a good post to keep the blog going for when you get back.
Yeah, I say you go with the fourth option. I think other bloggers would be happy to post.
It’s crazy you have 1,000 RSS Readers. That’s a lot of work into that.
@ Nathaniel. Nice tips.
Tom think on his tips. I think he is right.
Your blog is very nice, don’t leave it
You could work extra hard and come up with some extra articles and get them to auto post while you are gone and get some guest posters. I have seen quite a few blogs sell and fail right after
Tom,
I remember reading this article when I first started blogging and it said that most blogs don’t really pick up until an average of 12-18 months MINIMUM. I think you are right at that point. This blog is not even a year old yet.
1,000 subscribers is a pretty good amount man. I wouldn’t give up if I were you. I think you should take the advice of the previous people about taking some guest posts to hold you over until you can devote more time.
Besides think about all the stuff you can write about after you get back from camp. It may not be standout blogger related but I am sure you will learn a lot about being a standout person which you can translate into blogging.
Anyway, good luck man.
I’d go with option two.
It’s not hard to find time to post a couple of times a month.
The big question really is “Do you enjoy it?”
Don’t let it die, then regret it later…
Sorry for the double comment, but I just noticed that you have over 1,000 readers.
You REALLY don’t want to let this blog go.
Most bloggers would kill for a readership of this size!
I’d consider to go with 1 post every week, or maybe every two weeks. I had these problems as well and I honestly think that it’s just wasted time and effort when you let it die, I am not someone to throw something away that has value for me :).
Putting in so many hours and then leaving it to die sounds harsh, rather work a bit on it and sell. It’s already nice with a pr3 and has some value in itself.
Dude, do not even trip about this! When I blogged at bloggin-ads, I spent even more hours than that and only made about $300-400 a month with some months that had a slight bonus.
Now that I’m onto arcade sites, I work on them even MORE (less stressful though), but make less than half. It takes time…even if it takes years :)
-Mike
p.s. I’m up to my 7th month on arcade sites too!
I think the time will show you the way to go and what decision will be optimal for you.Blessings to you.
