Hey guys, I have a fantastic post on it’s way hopefully tomorrow about ’5 Ways To Take Your Blog To The Next Level’, where I will being using examples of probloggers who have had a simgle moment where everything seemed to fall into place and their blogs kicked it up a gear – so keeps your eyes peeled to your readers for that one – and if you are not subscribed I encourage you too so I have the opportunity to humiliate Shannon!
But today I would like to get your opinions on the changes I made to my blog design!
If you are a regular reader then you would have noticed the changes just the other day where I:
- Removed the boxes that were under the header
- Moved my rss signup to the sidebar
- Replaced my 125×125 ads with one hostgator ad
- Added a banner above my latest post to advertise my competition
I think it makes it a whole lot cleaner, but you are the ones that visit my blog, so I obviously would love to hear your thoughts!
Challenge Update!
Well I have gained 35 readers (I think). Which I think is fantastic! I’d love to hit 250 or even 300 by the end of this challenge with Shannon and get the opportunity to see him humiliated – so make sure you subscribe to my feed to help me along the way!

I think your changes are for the best, which is what you were aiming I’m sure ;) What motivated your decision to go with a hostgator ad instead of 125×125 ads? Well…I guess monetization of course, but is it an experiment or hostgator is your main source of income?

Tom, I like the new changes.
One thing I have to say though… bring back the 125×125 banners! It’s one of the best types of advertising, and advertisers love using those size banners! I’m not sure if you plan to sell any banner advertising, but if you do, I recommend you put them back.

Hmm… I have a few suggestions
1) Either bring back the 125 x 125 banners (or) choose a banner than is 250 x 250, not like 200 x 250 – it looks a whole lot better when it is even / square.
2)The black bar at the top of the page looks a little “out” from the rest of the theme, and the text on it is hard to read. I would recommend changing the colour scheme to a blue bar with white or black text, or if u leave the colour as black like it is than u need to change the colour of the text used on it to something lighter.
3) Down in the sidebar where the StandOut Commentator’s widget is you have used the tags obviously and need to remove these, as currently there is a bullet point to the left of it that doesn’t look like it should be there.
4) If you can, put a 5px gap around each of the EntreCard banners, just to make it look a little nicer.
5) Possibly use a light blue colour for that navigation bar / shape – make it stand out a bit more
Other than that (sorry), I do like the new design – hope u take into consideration my feedback and make sure u fix up tip #4 :)

The changes do look good, but I also have to agree with everything Simon said… but mainly just that the black bar at the top should really have white text to match the black bar at the bottom, that will make it soooo much easier to read.
Good job!
I would sign up to your RSS if I hadn’t already. Good luck with the challenge!

Tom,
The changes look very good. I like simple design a lot as you can probably tell from all of the white space that exists on my site. The more you can add to the simplicity of your design the more the content is brought to the center stage.
Keep up the good work.

I’m not sure on your decision to get rid of 125×125 opportunities, but whatever works for you.
In regards to the look, feel, and functionality of the site, I did notice but didn’t think it made much of a difference (just remember to remove that huge banner at the end of the competition!) in the user experience.
