About a week ago, I completed my latest blog flip. If you don’t know what blog flipping is it really is just buying a blog and then turning around a selling it for more than you paid for it! For me the process took about a week from start to finish and here are the figures:
Blog: StartYourFirstWebsite.com
Purchase Price: $35 (The domain alone was worth more than that I believe)
Sale Price: $200
Who wouldn’t want an extra $165 for a weeks work? And by ‘one weeks work’ I mean part time (cause I barely did anything at all!)
So how did I do it? Anyone who has done blog flipping before knows that they key is to a successful blog flip is adding value!
Add Value To Your Blog
The more perceived value a blog has, the more someone will be willing to pay for it! (That is just common sense)
How Did I Add Value To StartYourFirstWebsite?
I was able to add a lot of value extremely quickly by one simple method! Twitter.
As well as receiving the blog, the purchaser would also receive a Twitter account that I had created that had over 2,000 followers!
Other than that, all I did was change the theme, and add about 4 extra blog posts, then listed it straight back up for sale. Bidding was going well up to $90, then I received a BIN offer via PM which I took! It was seriously that simple!
How Do You Get Into Blog Flipping?
Before you just jump into blog flipping and start making a heap of mistakes that first time blog flippers usually make, I would recommend starting by getting a good education.
I am a huge fan of learning from others mistakes and that is exactly what I recommend you to do.
Desmond Ong has written a fantastic guide that takes you right through the whole blog flipping process. Blog Flipping Formula comes from Desmonds personal experience, flipping a heap of blogs. In fact he made over $5,000 in one week using these methods!
It’s not expensive, but it is definately valuable. Who wouldn’t want to learn how a person using this same exact blog flipping formula to make thousands of dollars in one week?
What Am I Doing Now?
Well considering the success of my last blog flip, I am considering doing something similar, using the blog flipping formula to off load a few of my excess domains -while making some extra cash!

It’s not really that much of a profit, seeing as you did write 4 blog posts and change the theme. And of course the time you put into the Twitter account (even if most of it was automated).

Glen – That is true. But imagine if you did 3-4 of these a week? It is a great start to working online full-time and not having to worry about job security.
That is a good point. I actually work online full-time myself so I do understand :)

Glen – Nice work! It is definitely something I aim to be doing by the end of the year -full-time online that is.
Sandeep – Yea. I’m not saying it is a fantastic result, but it is something that would be great on the side.
I believe you could’ve had ended getting a higher BIN by listing it in sitepoint. I have done a lot of selling sites this year but didn’t really want to call it site flipping because those are once profitable websites/blogs for me.
Ironically I hold a blog called startyourfirstblog.com and I am looking to flip it for quite some time in the near future.

Nice blog flip. Nice profit as well. I often like to buy domain, install wordpress, and a few posts and then sell it but buying a blog at low price is cool to. Keep up the good work.

Tom, I have a question… where do you buy/sell sites? You seem to always buy them cheaply and then get a good price, so I’d love to know ;)
Simon – I just use digitalpoint to buy and sell. I have heard you get a better price at sitepoint, but ive never tried!
Hmm, I used to just buy domains and some content and sell for $100 ish (at around $60 profit) on DP, but I get the feeling it may be better to buy sites that have previously been an active blog or whatever?
