This is why I wanted to show you a few photos from my wedding (which happened in June, but Fiona and I only recently returned home to Australia from Canada). I hope you enjoy them.

What’s Coming Up For StandOutBlogger?

I’ve had a couple of months to really think about where I want SOB to go, and what I want it to become. The whole concept of StandOutBlogger was founded on:

Wanting to inspire and educate other bloggers to create and maintain blogs that STAND OUT from the crowd.

However, somewhere along the line, I feel like I have stepped off the track, and I am now looking at ways to bring a more focused approach back to SOB that will provide a whole lot more value to you as bloggers.

So stay tuned…

As I am now an engaged man and with my wedding fast approaching I have been spending a lot of time looking at partnerships. How they work, what makes a good one , what makes one last and why being in a partnership is so much better than going it alone.

What I have found is 5 results of a successful partnership and why I’d rather journey with someone than go it alone.

Partners Inspire

When you are working on something alone you only have yourself to please and disaapoint. I don’t know about you, but personal satisfaction only does a small amount to keep me motivated. I am very much an ‘other people focused’ type of person – and my motivation and inspiration comes from wanting to help or please someone else.

As my wedding quickly approaches, I have found my passion and drive to make something of myself online has dramatically increase. You see, now that Fiona and I are in a partnership, my sole focus is to be able to provide for her – yet not in a way that will keep me away from home for long periods of time.

My inspiration to work harder and be more creative with my online businesses, comes from my desire to acheive my best for my partner. If I was still going at this alone I would have no where near the passion that I have now.

Partners Compliment

Every good partnership is made up of people who have skills and talents that compliment each other. You do not want two head strong leaders because I was always taught:

Two captains sink a ship

In other words, if you have two people trying to lead, there is sure to be conflict – and it will most like end in mutiny. But if you are able to form a partnership with people who compliment each other, with defined roles – you are on the right path to success.

Partners Challenge

Ever tried to psych yourself up when you are getting slack? It doesn’t really work does it?

Have you ever worked on a project with someone and found yourself getting slack? Chances are you didn’t even realise you were getting slack before your partner started to challenge your work ethic! Accountability is a gift. While most people see it as a burden, I know that I would not get half of the work I current do, if Fiona didn’t constantly ask me what I had done that day. Knowing that she will ask me, motivates me to get ask much done as possible!

Partners Encourage

While partners are constantly challenging us, one sign of a successful partnership is encouragement. If you have a good partnership then obviously you want to see your partner achieving their best. So when ever they have a setback or feel like they want to give up, you are there to encourage them, to be the person that believes in them. The power on encouragement is grossly underrated and I believe that a person that feels supported and is constantly being told that they can achieve what they set out to do – will be way more likely to do what they set out to do, than someone who is never encouraged.

Partners Celebrate

There is nothing worse than acheiving one of your goals, only to realise that you are all alone, celebrating by yourself. Where is the fun in that?

So not only are partners there to inspire you, compliment you, challenge you and encourage you, but they are also there to celebrate your victories with you. And the bonus is, that since they have been on the journey with you, they will know the ffort that you put in and the struggles that you have, making them understand the joy that you now feel in your accomplishment!

How have your partnerships fared? Where they successful or did they not go to plan? Share your partnership stories in the comments below!

I will be the first to admit that I have failed on many occassions. Projects that havn’t worked the way I planned. Ideas that turned out to look so much better in my mind than in real life. But it’s not just failure that gets us down, but rejection.

Sometimes well meaning people try to project their personal opinions about us, and while they don’t mean to hurt us - sometimes it does. Rejection from strangers is easy to handle for most people, but when someone we know and respect tells us that we are a failure, that what we are working on isn’t working, it can really get to us.

So I just wanted to look at 3 really simple things that we can do to turn failure and reject into success. But before I do, check out this video to see a few of the people that failure puts you in the same league as.

Change Our Mindset

If we want to turn our failures into success the first thing we need to do is decide to believe in ourselves. We need to put aside what other people are saying and not let their perceptions change the way we see ourselves.

You will notice that every single person that was mentioned in the video suffered a setback - and pretty huge ones at that. I am sure that they all faced the point of decision and felt like giving up, but think if they had.

Imagine if Thomas Edison had listened to his teacher? History would have missed out on one of it’s greatest inventors. Or what if Michael Jordan had given up basketball after being cut from his high school basketball team? America would have been been denied one of their national sporting icons.

Who are you letting down by not stepping into your destiny? If you don’t step up. It you don’t look above what other people think, even your own personal doubts, you may not only be robbing yourself of what could have been but you are also robbing those who you could have affected if you believed in yourself enough to continue.

Change Our Actions

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. (Albert Einstein)

The funny thing is that a lot of people actually think that things will change even though we are still doing the same thing. It’s almost like they are expecting some kind of external help that will somehow miraculously change their circumstances for the best.

Sometimes I think this is because people are lazy and think it is easier to do the same thing, even though they are not going anywhere, then to step out and change things up to see if they can find what really works. But other times it is due to the fact that people don’t know how to get out of the rut that they are in.

Whatever it is, we need to change what we are doing. What is the point of wasting time and effort on something that isn’t working. So if you don’t know what changes you need to make, then find people who have your best interests in heart AND know what you are capable of, and see if they can give you an outside perspective!

Persevere

If you are convinced that you have what it takes and are willing to make the necessary changes then the only thing left is to never give up! Check out this video for a bit of inspiration:

One of the quotes that I love from this video is:

And many a failure turns about when he might have won had he stuck it out

I have seen this all to often, especially on blogging, where a hotshot new blogger hits the scene with a massive load of potential only to see them give up. They give up because they do not see the growth they were expecting or making the money that they wanted. However it all comes down to perseverance and the time you put into it.

Dean Hunt puts it nicely on in a video over at RetireAt21.com.

In the video he mentions that if you have 1cent and double it every day for a whole month, that 1cent turns into about $5million dollars. This is what everyone is expecting when they start their ventures – the promise of big profits. But the thing is, that it is just like compounding interest. It will start slow but then it will just hit a level where things seem to just take off.

If you had stopped doubling after the first 10 days of the month, you would only walk away with about $5, not knowing you were only 20 days away from $5million.

So if you are struggling with failure or rejection in your projects, you just need to change your mindset to a positive one, looking above what others may say – or even the circumstances. Then make the necessary changes to stear the project in the right direction and then sitck it out! Keep working though the hard times, persevere when things get slow and give success every chance to knock on your door!

So many people fail at getting to where they want in life because the do not take ahold of the countless opportunites that come there way – on a regular basis. Everyday we encounter new opportunities and if only we knew how to identify them, we would not only save ourselves a lot of time and effort but we would also start to see our dreams becoming a reality.

So many times we do not recognise all the opportunites that are available to act on. Acting on all opportunites both big and small will help you get to your desired destination quicker.

One thing I noticed is that a lot of people pass up the smaller opportunites because they are looking for that one opportunity that is sure to ‘make it big’, but a lot of times it is the smaller opportunites that provide stepping stones to bigger opportunites.

So here are my 3 Keys to Making Every Opportunity Count

Awareness
How can we expect to be taking ahold of new opportunites everyday if we cannot find them? The first thing that we need to be doing to make every opportunity count is the be aware that opportunites are everywhere! Especially with how busy life always seems to be, we get so caught up in what we are doing that opportunities are walking straight by us - and we don’t even notice.Another reason that we never seem to notice opportunies is because most times they arrive in the way of a problem.Every problem is an opportunity in disguise!Take Benjamin Franklin for example, he had bad eyesight and was tired of changing glasses to view short distance and and long distances. So he created bi-focal lenses.

So the first thing we need to be doing to make sure we are taking advantage of every opportunity in to realise that opportunities are everywhere and usually they come in the form of a problem.

Anticipation
So now that we know opportunities are everywhere the next step is to anticipate them. The dictionary defines anticipation as:

To realise beforehand; foretaste or forsee.’

The thing is, that now that we are aware of the countless opportunites available to us, we have to prepare ourselves so that when they come along that we are ready to take ahold of them. This is where your attitude plays a big role.

Even if you have taken the first step and made yourself aware that opportunities are everywhere, if you have a negative attitude you will always make excuses on why everyone else can take ahold of these opportunities and you can’t.

You will make excuses such as:

- I don’t have the money
- The timing isn’t right at the moment
- I could never do that

What you need to realise that the people who take their opportunites and run with it, could easily make the same excuses as you do – they just decide not too. There will always be excuses that you can make as why not to take an opportunity, what you need to do is put those excuses aside and focus on the reasons why you know you should take advantage of it!

Action
I’m sure you were already guessing this would be the final point, but the thing is that a lot of people even when they are aware of opportunities and start to anticipate these opportunites, taking check of their attitude to make sure they are ready – but they never take the action required. The only difference between you and any successful businessman, blogger, internet marketer or who ever you look up it is the fact that when they were presented with an opportunity they took action!

If the opportunity requires you to be more qualified – get more qualified. Take the required action to take advantage of the opportunity, but whatever you do, don’t let these actions become excuses that stop you!

I hope these steps will help you to not only find more opportunites but also to take advanage of them and see each opportunity you come in contact with count!

People always seem to think that only a select few people are able to constantly unleash a steady flow of creative thoughts and ideas – but that is not true at all. The reality is that creativity is just like a muscle that needs to be consistently exercised in order to give out great results on a regular basis. If you do not practice harnessing creative thinking, this skill will fade away into inexistence. However, if keep working this skill you will find your self having creative thoughts all the time.

So how do you unleash your creative thinking? There are 5 steps to unleashing creativity – and they are:

1. Become A Human Leech
Well, the first thing is that you have to become a human leech. I’m not talking about sucking the life out of every living being available, but instead that you should be taking in as much knowledge and learning you can find. Read everything available — good and bad (this is why I read so many blog posts each day!), and always keep your mind open to to possiblities, because a closed mind stunts creativity. The more you know, the more you’ll want to know.

2. Exercise Creativity Daily
You need to focus on a creative activity everyday. I know it’s an effort. It doesn’t have to be anything massive, even doodling is a creative activity. But for people who are just starting out to unleash a little bit of creative thinking in their lives, it is helpful (and encouraging) to have concrete evidence, that, “hey, what I’m doing is getting somewhere.” So why don’t you try it. Practice drawing for a couple of minutes each day. Bring out your old camera and start snapping photos like crazy. Whatever it takes for you to be exercising your creativity!

Before you know it, you’ll have built yourself a tiny portfolio, and you’ll be amazed at the growth you’ve undertaken after amassing all those works of art. Who knows, you might actually take to liking those things you do everyday. Pretty soon those things will become a part of you and you’ll be addicted to these creative exercises.

3. Be An ‘INSIDE The Box’ Thinker
Think out of the box — or don’t. Sometimes, constraints are actually a good thing. Limitations discipline you to work within your means. It enables you to be more resourceful. Creative freedom is awesome, but limitations enforce discipline – and challenges you to work with the tools that you have.

4. Try Something New Everyday
Try something new everyday and let it broaden your perspective. Explore a new district in your neighborhood. Spend an afternoon in an art gallery or museum – go where you’ve never been before. Chat to someone on the bus. Open up to the people around you. As you take yourself out of your comfort zone more and more each day, your sense of adventure grows and so does your creativity. Think about it. When was the last time you did something for the first time? If it’s been a while, then I encourage you to step out and start living creatively!

5. Embrace Insanity
Embrace insanity. Not to the point where you are admitting yourself into the mental ward. John Russell once said, “Sanity calms, but madness is more interesting.” Every creative thought was once deemed insanity by other people at one time or another. Luckily, that didn’t stop the creative geniuses from standing by them. The thing is, sanity or being normal confines people to think normally. With their limits. It’s important that your creativity doesn’t get you detached from the real world completely.

I hope this inspires you to start thinking beyond your limits. Start living a life full of interesting adventures and unleash your creativity!

If you have been reading this blog for even a short period of time, then I am sure that you would have heard me say at least once that I get distracted VERY easily. In fact if procrastination were an olympic sport, I would have a very good shot at Gold!

Here are a few Procrastination Quotes for your entertainment!
(If you are disciplined in time-management just skip to the main points to save time.)

It is an undoubted truth, that the less one has to do, the less time one finds to do it in. ~Earl of Chesterfield

There’s nothing to match curling up with a good book when there’s a repair job to be done around the house. ~Joe Ryan

You know you are getting old when it takes too much effort to procrastinate. ~Author Unknown

Ok, let’s get back on track, but for those of you who liked the procrastination quotes I have added one more to each of the blogs points.

One of the things (I don’t want to say New Years Resolutions, because everyone breaks them) that I have decided to work on in 2009 is to overcome procrastination. I want to finish things I start and get to the end of a day and be happy with all the work that I have done.

So I have come up with 4 easy steps that I will follow (and you can too) on:

How To Overcome Procrastination

Plan Your Day

The sooner I fall behind, the more time I have to catch up. ~ Author Unknown

This is something that I started to do a bit during December and I was getting great results.

At the beginning of each day (well the ones I remembered), I would write a list of all the things I wanted to get done with my blogs that day.

Here is a list from one of the days:

As you will see, I completed everything on that list, including 3 blog posts, dropping 300 entrecards and transferring a website. Obviously I got more than this done, but these were the things that I wanted to do (that I usually wouldn’t).

Obviously this is the first step on how to overcome procrastination!

The idea is to make a list of all the things that you NEED to get done, and then also create another list of the things that you would LIKE to get done.

Remove Distractions

Anyone can do any amount of work, provided it isn’t the work he is supposed to be doing at that moment. ~ Robert Benchley

Some people may be able to multi-task and be able to work as well as have the TV on, listen to music, answer emails, chat on msn and play games – BUT for the serial procrastinator this is just not possible.

Too many colours. Too much noise. In other words – TOO MANY DISTRACTIONS that seem way to inviting compared to what we are supposed to be doing. So work now – play later. Something that I did was set myself some goals. Once I completed 3 of my goals I could stop and watch tv for 30 min, or after completing each task I could check my emails.

Not only did I get a lot more work done, I found myself becoming less addicted to my websites statistics and my emails! (Because we all know that way to many internet marketers check their email and website stats a little too often!)

Be Accountable

Procrastination is opportunity’s assassin. ~Victor Kiam

Procrastination is a problem that can sometimes be a bit to hard to break yourself. So if you struggle with getting things done even after you write a list then it might be a good idea to share your ‘to do list’ with someone.

This way they are able to hold you accountable for getting your work done by checking with you during the day to see how you are going.

I have never actually tried this method for myself but I know that if you have someone constantly checking up on you then you are more likely to get things done (think of when your mum kept bugging you about that homework you had due!)

Start Now

“The greatest amount of wasted time is the time not getting started.” ~ Dawson Trotman

One of the serial procrastinators most frequent sayings would most likely be: ‘I’ll do tomorrow!’

So kick the habit now, and start planning tomorrow – today! Go on, I dare you too!

So just wondering… who else is ready to kick procrastination?

I was a bit bored today so I sent an SMS to my friend asking him if he was up for some exercise. I gave him two options:

Tennis

Mountain Climbing

He chose mountain climbing, and we decided climb Mount Tibrogargan and arrived at the foot of the mountain at 1:45pm. With a recommended climb time of 3 hours we knew for sure we would be back down before dark – so we set off.

As we climbed and we struggled against things like the scorching heat and poor fitness I started thinking about how much climbing a mountain has in common with accomplishing our goals. So I decided to share them with you – and include a few pictures from our climb (using my new Sanyo Xacti Camera)

When we were deciding which mountain to climb, I told Cody (my friend) that I wanted a challenge, so he decided to suggest Mount Tibrogargan which as you can read on the sign above ‘Is for experience climbers only’.Knowing that this climb would challenge me, I decided to do a bit of research before we left. I found out how high the mountain was and how long the climb was estimated to take. I needed to know these facts to make sure that we would have enough time to complete the climb – I needed to know what we were up against.

It is exactly the same with blogging. As each new challenge or goal comes our way, the first thing we need to do is ‘Know Our Opponent’ – just like we had to know the mountain we were climbing and a sportsman or team needs to study their opponents. We need to know our goals and where we are heading.

Do you know your target?

Have The Necessary Tools To Achieve Your Goal

As we got ready to leave we both filled our water bottles over 5 litres in total, made sure our shoes were good enough for mountain climbing and had a backpack (the one cody is modeling above) to put the water and our phones/keys in – we were set! Or were we?

When you are looking to accomplish your goals you need to make sure you have EVERYTHING that you need, or you will just make things harder on yourself. One thing that we realized we had forgot about halfway up the mountain was food!

What do you need to achieve your goal?

Don’t Travel Alone
I know this one seems so obvious, but so many people jump into their projects, set their goals and then tackle it – alone! I don’t understand why people do this. Lately I have really had the desire to actually do some form of exercise, especially since work has taken a break over Christmas – I am not really doing any physical activity. But I havn’t done anything. Not that I havn’t planned too, I constantly set my alarm at 5am with the goal of going for a jog along the beach before I get started for the day but I just cant seem to motivate myself to actually do it. this is why I decided to get a friend to come with me:

To keep me accountable to actually doing what I’ve said I will.

To keep me motivated

To have someone to share the journey with
There is nothing worse than doing something for the first time, or completing one of your goals – and no one was there to experience it with you. You can always retell the story to others but it’s not the same as having someone who was their with you.

This is why with my blogging goals for 2009 I decided to post them for you all to read. In fact this is the reasoning I listed:

So You Know What To Expect
I don’t treat my visitors as customers that I just try and flog any product to in the hope of snagging myself a commission. I value the relationships I have built through this blog and I’d prefer to think of you all as part of the StandOutBlogger family! So, since you are now part of the family, I wanted to let you know where we are heading so you can know what to expect over the coming 12 months -and hopefully if you havn’t already, it will encourage you to subscribe so you don’t miss a minute of it! Because it will be exciting!!!

To Keep Me Accountable
I could easily write up some goals and keep them to myself, but where is the accountability? I have found when I have done this I will get to the end of the period of time, not be anywhere near meeting my goals and when somebody would ask me how my goals went, I’d reply, ‘Yea good, I think I hit most of them’. (Just being honest)Putting my goals out in the open, where you all can see – and check back on when I post my results at the end of next year, will make sure there is no, ‘Yea good, I think I hit most of them’. Instead I will have to give exact answers.

To Keep Me Motivated
Some people don’t seem to get motivated by written goals, but this is usually because they are not written in the right way. If you stick to the SMART goal setting formula you are sure to come away with goals that will keep you pumped all year long!I am the type of person that gets sidetracked really (i mean REALLY) easily, and I lose drive for a project just as quick – so staying motivated is always one of my biggest challenges, but I am sure these goals will have me excited (You will be too when you read them!)

Who are you travelling with?

Set Smaller Targets To Achieve Your Goal

I was one told the following statement, ‘How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.’

That is exactly what we needed to do with our mountain climb. Considering it was the middle of summer and we are note exactly the fittest people in the world, I will admit we did struggle. We lost our breathe, we got tired, we were hot and worse yet – we could never see the top!

Don’t you hate it when you set a goal, but it always seems out of sight.

How do you motivate yourself to achieve those goals that just seem so unreachable? You set smaller steps that will lead you to your goal. With our mountain climb we would continually set small goals like:

When we make it to that shade, we will stop for a drink

When we reach that platform we will stop and admire the view and take photos

Small goals that kept us motivated to our goal!

What small steps are you taking to reach your goal?

Don’t Give Up

I had the perfect photo for this point pretty much the same as the picture in point 3, but with us having sweat dripping off our faces and looking like we were going to die – but cody made me delete it. So I added a picture of part of the climb.

So many times during the climb we wanted to give up.

When we started to get puffed

When we started to get hot

When we started to get hungry

When we started to get tired and sore

We has so many opportunities to just give up, but we didn’t! We wanted to reach the top and we were not going to let anything stop us from getting there.

No matter what comes up to challenge you…Don’t give up!

Look Back Only To See How Far You Have Come

As we were climbing, the only time we ever looked back was when we stopped for a break. There was no better feeling stopping for a break, grabbing a quick drink and then walking to the edge and looking back at how far we had come.

It was such a motivational boost to look down at the ground getting further away, my car getting smaller and the view getting better! I know a lot of times when we are struggling we look back at what we left behind – the comfort, and wish that we had never set such ‘unrealistic goals’.

But I challenge you. As you push towards your goals, only look back to see how far you have come – and let it motivate you towards your goal.

Enjoy The Journey

Sometimes I think that we get so focused on achieving our goals that we just put our heads down and pursue our goal like a lady with her eyes set on a sale rack! But I don’t think that’s how it should be. I honestly believe the fun is not in achieving the goals but instead in the journey towards the goal.

The goanna above, we noticed on the side of the trail, it just stood their and posed for us as we took photos. We could quite easily have missed it – it wasn’t noisy, but we didn’t because we decided at the start that we would enjoy the journey.

Don’t get so caught up in the end target that you miss the journey!

Revel In Your Success

We were so excited when we finally reached the top of the mountain! We suddenly were no longer tired, the heat didn’t bother us and all we wanted to do was get the typical ‘top of the mountain photo’. That was the prize we gave ourselves for reaching our goal – because it is something that we couldn’t get unless we did!

My point here is, when you reach your goals – reward yourself! It doesn’t have to be anything huge but make sure you do not just achieve your goal and then move straight onto your next one. Have some fun, celebrate a bit and revel in your success!

Reach Your Goal Then Take A Break

Now we knew that once we got to the top and took a few photos we still had the return leg to go, but we were happy enough to take a break at the top and spend 15 minutes just sitting around having some fun and just catching our breathe before we started our journey back down the mountain.

This point is usually forgotten because as soon as we reach one goal we are taught to set a new target and start working towards it. But you deserve a break – so take it! Sure some people might call you lazy, but they are probably the ones who didn’t even meet their goals.

Promise me that when you achieve your goals, you will take a break – just a short one, to gain your breathe before tackling a new goal.

Sometimes The Way Down Is Harder Then The Way Up

Trying to follow up your success is sometimes harder then achieving your goal in the first place. Trying to keep the momentum going, tackling new obstacles that arise because you achieved your goal – I was actually a bit worried about climbing down the mountain.Just before we started heading down Cody said to me:

Be careful on the way down, because a lot of people lose focus on the way down and that is when the most accidents occur.

And that made a lot of sense. After coming of the ‘high’ of achieving your goal you can easily get distracted and lose focus – which is not a good thing when you are coming down from a mountain. One wrong step and you could tumble 50-100 meters. One moment of distraction one our way down from achieving our goal and we could lose all our hard work.

As you start your decent from reaching your goals, stay focused!

I know this has been a long post, but I know with 2009 around the corner everyone is setting goals and I really wanted to give you all a few points that could really help you in achieving them!

And by the way, you know how I mentioned that the recommended time to climb the mountain was 3 hours? Well we did it in 1hr 45min (including the 15minutes at the top!).

As we get set to welcome in a new year, we also must stop and take note of what we are looking to achieve in this coming year. Setting goals is one of the biggest keys to succeeding in any area of life and blogging is no exception.

“He who fails to plan, plans to fail!”

This is one quote that has stuck with me ever since I heard it, and it continually reminds me to stop and take check that I am constantly updating my goals.

There are two type of goals you can set:

SMART goals

Dumb goals

Here is an example of some dumb goals!

I will make more money than last year from my blog

I will regularly post on my blog

I will make a million dollars online next year

I want to grow the traffic to my blog

I will spend time working on the SEO of my blog

Why are these goals dumb?

Before I can show you why these goals are dumb (if you haven’t worked it out already), I have to show you exactly what makes up a smart goal. As you may have guessed SMART is an acronym that shows you the integral parts of a smart goal.

SMART Goals

S – Specific

M – Measurable

A - Attainable

R – Relevant

T – Time Bound

Lets take a look at each of these essential building blocks individually:

Specific

To make a goal specific we have to look at the 5 ‘W’s

Why?

What?

Where?

When?

Why?

There is more chance of you being motivated by a goal that is specific as it gives you steps to achieve them not just a pie in the sky statement.

Lets look at the first of our dumb goals:

I will make more money than last year from my blog

A SMART version of this goal would be:

I will make an extra $100 a month from my blog through direct sales, affiliate promotion and Google Adsense

Now you have set a specific amount you will make which allows you to track your progress as well as the way you aim to achieve it.

Measurable

You have to make sure that you can measure your goals to make sure that you have reached them, or just to keep tabs on how you are traveling with them.

If you cannot measure your goal, you cannot manage your goal

To determine if your goal is measurable, ask questions such as……How much? How many? How will I know when it is accomplished?

Attainable

The reason I threw in the following dumb goal:

I will make a million dollars online next year

Is because I see a lot of new bloggers make statements like this – maybe not as big, but that is just it. They just pluck a number out of the air that they would like to make but we all know there is no chance that they will make it. Not because they can’t, but because of they way they have set their goal.

If you can explain how you will make the million dollars they maybe I will give you the benefit of the doubt. If you can make it specific and measurable, then maybeI will think you have a small chance of making it. Just don’t set goals that just pluck a figure out of the air just for the sake of having a goal.

Relevant

When you are looking at planning your long and short term goals is there a link between the two? Do your goals parallel each other? Make sure each goal is consistent with other goals you have established and fits with your immediate and long-term range plans.

Time Bound

It is no use having a specific and attainable goals if you do not give yourself a time frame to complete them within.

I will spend time working on the SEO of my blog

Looking at this goal it doesn’t really motivate you at all. I would change it to something similar to this:

I will write 1 keyword targeted articles and comment at least 2 new blogs each day for the next 30 days

This type of goal is so much easier to attain because each day you can go ‘Ok, I need to write one article and comment at least 2 new blogs each day’ and it gives you something to do to complete your goal. Instead of just an airy statement about spending time on working on your SEO services.

So when you start looking at setting goals for 2008, make the SMART choice and set SMART goals!

As I have mentioned before, one of my goals in life is to impact the nation of africa by trying to inject hope into a hopless situation. I am hoping to visit Africa for a couple of months next year to experience everything first hand and hopefully let the extreme poverty, terrible health conditions and inhumane war, really break my spirit and let it grab ahold of me and not let go.

Recently I was searching different aid organisations on myspace and google and came accross one called Invisible Children. The story of Invisible Children inspired me so much because it is a story of everyday people. Young people. 3 Film makers who decided to visit war torn Africa and find a story that would impact others – not knowing that I would start a movement that has raised millions of dollars to rebuild schools that were destroyed by war in Uganda.

Here Is There Story

I wanted to know more and see more, so I bought both of their dvd documentaries. The Initial trip ‘Invisible Children’ and also ‘Go’ which is where 12 students from America were given the opportunity to go to Uganda and experience it all first hand.

Here Is The GO Trailer

I just finished watching ‘GO’ and it is one of the most inspiring films I have ever seen. To see people my age, a generation that has been brought up to be selfish, being selfless. Being broken by the children that they meet. Seeing the pain in the African childrens eyes and then also seeing how this pain was affecting these american teens made me all the more want to visit africa.

They Way I See It Is….

That we can live our lives focusing on ourselves, getting ahead in life, walking around with our hands over our eyes, or we can choose to live our lives with the intent of helping others, bringing hope and changing lives! And you know what? We don’t have to leave the country to do this. Just find something that breaks your spirit. That makes you stop and think, ‘This isn’t right!’ – and then do something about it!

***UPDATE****

I don’t normally do this, but I have just written a post on another of my blogs which really relates with this:

Poverty Facts: 10 Detestable Statistics In Pictures

I was reading up on some of the statistics in regard to global poverty and I really wanted to share them in a way that would move people into action – and pictures I decided would be the best option.

If you like the article, please share it so that others can be impacted also!
