Should I Enter ‘Blogging Idol’?
I promised myself that I wouldn’t try and ramp up my feed count using promotions and gimicks. I wanted this blog to grow naturally because of my fantastic content
.
That was all good and well until I found out about Blogging Idol.
Here Is The basic concept of Blogging Idol:
Basically I want to create a competition where any blogger with 1000 subscribers or less can enter. People can also create brand new blogs just for the competition. Those bloggers will then compete for one month, and we will track the initial and the final number of subscribers (as reported from Feedburner), and the blogger who manages to gain the largest number of new subscribers in that period will be declared the Blogging Idol, and will win the money prize.
Here are 4 reason that I really want to enter Blogging Idol:
- The Thrill
Who doesn’t love the thrill of a competition. Will you win. Won’t you win. How can I come up with the most creative way to beat my competition. Any guy knows the feeling – I think it is built into our DNA. So I guess my first reason for wanting to enter Blogging Idol is so I get the thrill of trying to win. - The Knowledge
Knowledge for me. Knowledge for you. There are going to be some amazing strategies coming out as bloggers expand their thinking to try and gain the most subscribers in one month. I know I will be doing a fair bit of brainstorming as will all the other contestants – so not only will it be a massive learning curve for me, but you will get some amazing tips also! - The Incentive
Now I’m not just talking about the incentive of the main prize (which is still to be announced), but more the incentive to work so much harder on improving StandOutBlogger. See what I do for you guys!
I don’t know if you have entered a RSS feed count competition, but I have for ThomasSinfield.com. What I found was that my post quality increased. The benefits for my readers and subscribers were fantastic, and my promotion efforts increased exponentially. - The Networking
I’m sure there are going to be a lot of amazing bloggers entering this competition, so the opportunity to build relationships with some of them is another great incentive. I know from the competition that I mentioned before I build great relationships with 2 of my competitors, Ian Fernando (who just made it onto Top Affiliate Challenge!) and Jason – TheUniversityKid.com. I am looking forward to building my contact list if I enter.
I feel I have almost convinced myself to enter, but I want to hear from you – my readers, subscribers and peers. Should I enter Blogging Idol? And if I do, will you join me?

This is the first I’ve heard about this and it sounds like it could be fun! I’m not sure if I’m going to enter or not…partially because I don’t currently use feedburner and am not sure if I want to.
Looks like a nice contest but its not fair as someone with higher Feed count can earn more Feed subscriber easily.
Thanks for your comment on my blog.
Agent 001 – I raised this question also, but the general consensus is that there doesn’t seem to be a fairer way of discovering a winner.
Hey Tom,
Yep, I think it will be a good time. Definitely join in – you might be able to get some nice links and exposure. Plus the motivation to increase your subscriber base… I’m in too so hopefully I’ll see you there.
Thanks Gyutae! I think I will, it sounds like a great opportunity!
Hi Tom!
I definitely think you should enter. I would, but am soon leaving to Cairns(!) for a couple of weeks, and so will try to pick things up after then.
By the way – off topic – you need to update your advertising page, it doesn’t tell us the same thing as your $10 ad banners
Hi James, I am just heading over to blogging idol now to enter! And thanks for the reminder – I have just updated my advertising page! hopefully I can sell a few $10 ad spots
Most definately – I say you join!
