It is just 3 days until I marry the most amazing girl and we head off to Canada for 2 1/2 months! So right now I am thinking of the best way to take StandOutBlogger to the next level when I get back. So today I want to look at Podcasting.
Do you subscribe to Podcasts through your iTunes account?
I subscribe to about 10 or more different Podcasts through iTunes because sometimes I really don’t feel like listening to music while I am driving and would rather something entertaining or education.
This got me thinking about SOB, as Podcasting is something that I have become really interested in lately and see it as a great way to find new readers/listeners/viewers, as well as also making sure I am constantly keeping this blog fresh.
My Podcasting Dilemma
But now I am looking into Podcasting, it has got me thinking about whether vlogging (video blogging) would be better than audio blogging? I mean people love visuals, right? But then that cuts out the majority of people wanting to listen in their car. (some will still watch while driving :P)
So I thought my easiest solution to this dilemma was to ask you, my readers, which method you would prefer. Let me pose a few questions, and if you could answer them by adding a comment below that would be great!
My Questions To You…
- Do You Subscribe To Podcasts Through iTunes?
- How Many Do You Subscribe To?
- Are They Audio Or Video Podcasts?
- Would You Prefer StandOutBlogger Podcasts In Audio Or Video Format?
If you could leave a comment below with your answers to these questions that would be fantastic!
PS. My fiance should be making a guest post within the next day or so, which should be highly entertaining. Then after that I am going technology free for the week after my wedding – so don’t stress if I do not reply! I will get back to you.
PPS. I have a few guest posts lined up, but would love some more. If you are interested in guest posting on StandOutBlogger, shoot me a quick email with your post idea, and I’ll let you know if it’s something that the rest of my readers would love.

Congrats Tom! Don’t forget to take us with you to Canada by posting pics, etc.
I can’t comment on podcasts and itunes because I use neither. Sorry dude.
Thanks Ben! I’ll be sure to take a lot of photos, and I apologise in advance if all my posts are a bit more personal than informative for the next couple of months :D
First of all congratz Tom! I wish you a happy life, even before getting married :p And as Ben said, take a ton of pictures and share them with us :D
I actually can’t comment on the three first questions because I don’t use iTunes :) but for the fourth, I’d prefer you podcast in Video format for three reasons why I do believe in video:
1. Video Gives You a Voice and Face: You will see that after posting videos people will interact with you in a different way, maybe you will receive some emails that has a more personal edge :)
2. Video Connects with Different Personalities and Learning Styles: Some people learn more by hearing and seeing, and some only by reading. Video appeals to a different crowd and can potentially widen your audience.
3. Video Opens Up Opportunities to Illustrate Certain Principles in Creative Ways: Sometimes you need a lot of voice or body language to show people what you mean and videos just made it easier for you! It opens up different ways of illustrating the principles you’re talking about.
Good luck and congratulations again :)

Hey Tom,
I don’t do any of that but after reading that I think I should add my podcasts to itunes.
Thanks for the post.
Michael
Oussama – Thanks! Those are some great Pro’s for video. I do love the idea for video, and think you hit a great point when you talk about illustrating your points.
That is the one thing I have against video, that I don’t like it when you just sit infront of it and talk.
Michael – Yea, you definately should be on itunes! LEt me know when you are :P
Congrats & Best wishes, Tom!
I subscribe to a few hundred podcasts. Unless it’s a real learning (like a photoshop tutorial), I prefer audio only so I can work while I listen. You can always do mostly audio and then throw in an occasional video version if warranted!
Deb
Thankyou Deb! I know what you mean. Throwing the odd video in is a great idea :D (personally I prefer audio as well)
Congrats dude! I personally prefer audio because I never sit still long enough to bother with watching a video podcast, haha.
Both, it doesn’t matter to me.
What I want to know is:
1) Is it OK to post both audio MP3s and Videos using the same Blogger Blog?
2) If so, do they need to be on separate Posts, or can I include both an audio and video podcast in the same post?
3) What format is OK for video? Are WMV files ok, or does it need to me a .mov or .mp4 to play on an iPod?
4) Is iTunes the best way to embed the square image that will end up showing on a persons iPod when playing back the audio podcast?
5) Can I use FeedBurner to create a separate Audio and video podcast feed from the same Blogger blog?
Thanks!
Brett
Video Podcaasting definately. Audio is a good way to start (since it’s easier) but video can give you more audience since 1) you can share and upload it to video publishing sites 2) it’s the current rising trend in social media 3) there’s a lot more branding srength when readers see your face and 4) you can actually add affiliate links to videos to make money while delivering your content :D
If you really want to push through this, o learn from Yarao. He’s the podcast blogger master :)
