Bring Back The Posts On Blogging!
I have noticed that over the last couple of months, my focus has been a little bit off target – and my posts have moved away from ‘how to create a stand out blog’ to more about outsourcing and niche blogging.
While these may be great topics, you and the 2,000+ other subscribers didn’t subscriber to read about creating adsense blogs, you are here because you want to learn more about creating a influential and unique blog – and that is what I plan to bring the focus back too.
What Have I Been Up Too?
You may have noticed that posts on here have been a bit sporadic and that is because I have been focusing on a few other projects:
1. Built And Sold BuildThatList.com
In the beginning of January I started a list building blog called BuildThatList.com. I didn’t make it know that I was the owner, because I wanted to prove to myself that I could build a blog from scratch (without piggy backing the success of StandOutBlogger) and get it to a level of success quickly.
About a week ago I sold the blog for $500 (3 months after starting it) – and it sold within 3 hours of listing.
The Stats I Achieved Were:
- Alexa Ranking Of 71,000
- 92 RSS Subscribers
- 117 Aweber Subscribers
I also got a little bit of profit and was able to build relationships with some great bloggers.
2. Focusing Of Affiliate Marketing
In my ‘The One Top Affiliate Product For Your Blog‘ post I talked about how I was starting to find success promoting Market Samurai. Well I really focused a lot of my effort on increase my affiliate sales of the product – to great success. However, my next step is to find a second affiliate product to diversify my online business – and stabilize my income.
3. Working On A New Blog
A topic that has been a real interest to me over the last couple of months is outsourcing – as you may have realised. Well to save you guys from having to put up with more posts on the topic, and to create another asset for my online business – I have started to work on a brand new blog solely focused on outsourcing jobs overseas and the concept of geo arbitrage (which happens to be the name of the free ebook I am currently writing.
The domain, http://www.SecretMarketingSuccess.com is one that I have had for years and thought it would be a great fit (with outsourcing being the secret).
The added benefit for you guys (apart from not having to read my outsourcing articles – unless you really want to and decided to subscribe to my new blog) is that because I am publicly building this blog, I am going to be using it as a case study for starting, growing and running a successful, and profitable ‘stand out’ blog.
I am going to be trying a few different things than I have been doing here at SOB so there should be some interesting posts that I am sure will help you take your blog to the next level!
So Get Ready For Some Blog Improving Posts
Looking at my blog statistics I have realised that I have a blog that is just treading water. I have seen no growth in months (rss & traffic), and this analysis of my feed subscribers really hit home (courtesy of Blog Perfume)
What this chart is telling me is that I have had absolutely no growth since the beginning of this year, and if I continue at the rate I am currently growing this blog – I will have just 200 more subscribers at this time next year!
And if I showed you my Google analytic account, for the last 3 months it also looks like a flat line with a couple of bumps in it.
I am committed to making this change, and I think the one that that will do it – is to return the focus back to blogging. simple I know – but I am slow!

Hey Tom
Looks like you’re promoting Market Samurai quite a bit lately. Do they have affiliate program now? I remember they didn’t have it in place initially.
Anyway, my feed stats look more pathetic than yours…with a (-) growth rate…LOL

Yan – The do have an affiliate program, you have to own the software and apply to be an affiliate. It took me 6 months to get accepted – but well worth it for me.
Aha, you have have negative feed but congratulations on the PR5 :D
Agent Deepak – Yea that was me! BuildThatList.com was a great experience and taught me a lot of things.

Very easy to get off topic of what your blog is about. But the closer you can stay to what your blog is supposed to be the better.

Good to hear you’re regaining the original focus, and even better that the articles you don’t want here are actually turning into separate blogs!
I will be starting another, to which you may be interested in writing for. ;)

I wondered what the heck happened to that site, Tom. I actually posted about it just today.
I’d love to get your take on why you sold rather than continue to build the traffic and sell your own product.

Now I know the 1st owner of buildthatlist.
Thomas, I have a website that I’m no longer interested which is tweet-a-holic.com. The blog was written in Malay. Currently it rank 600k+ on alexa and have PR2. I thought to sell it but I don’t know the exact step to sell a site. or maybe I should the language first before start selling it. What do you think man?
