Are Bloggers Early Adopters?
I have been thinking about this alot recently.
Especially with a lot of my friends now all starting to get Twitter accounts. I mean, I had a Twitter account over 3 months ago and now I barely use it. But all of my friends are getting really excited about this ‘new’ website called Twitter – and they are all asking me how it works!
Are Bloggers Early Adopters?
I think there are a couple of reasons why bloggers seem to know about new websites and tools a long time before everyone one else.
- Bloggers Spend A Lot More Time On The Internet
This is probably the biggest reason, because obviously the more time you spend on something the more you are aware of everthing that is happening. - Companies Use Blogs For Promotion
Especially with new websites, big companies know the power of blogs. If they can get one or two bigger bloggers to talk about it, then they are sure to get many of their readers to blog about it also. So this is why bloggers seem to know about websites before everyone else, because they are part of the promotion methods that makes a website famous. - Bloggers Love To Try New Things
A lot of people are scared of what is new, and only want to use something when it has been tried and tested. Not bloggers! They want the latest and greatest. They are always looking to test the newest marketing methods, the next product that will help them improve their blogging. Bloggers are futurests, visionaries!
What new products or websites have you been using that haven’t become ‘popular’ yet? I’d love to hear any comments you have on websites that bloggers used a long time before the rest of the population!!!

Bloggers are early adobters, they read a lot and interact with others who are into the internet world and they want to promote what they are doing and there twitter steps in. Well twitter is a great tool, I just wrote an article on how creatives can benefit using twitter.
Still I think you still need a purpose or fame to use twitter powerfully, otherwise it’s just something like a public IM that will eat a lot of time.

Basically anyone that spends a lot of time on the Internet are early adopters. Bloggers mainly know things about blogging and anything related to it, but they are missing the rest of the Internet.

I totally agree with the #3. People like to read what bloggers did with the new stuff.

Hey Tom, I am totally with you that bloggers are early adopters when it comes to Web 2.0 and social media stuffs, especially when the bloggers are also teenagers like you and me.
I am currently trying a few web applications to move most of my tasks, documents and work onto the Internet. Cloud computing is not very popular yet although there are a few mentions earlier this year. Some of the applications that I am trying out are Gmail, Google Docs, Evernote and Remember The Milk.
How about you, Tom? Twitter?

I never consider myself an early adopter, as I tend to wait and see if things stick before trying them. But just being online and being a blogger does make you aware of the Internet trends before the mainstream, so I guess in a sense, you tend to be ahead of the curve. I was making a living from Adsense before most people believed you could even make money blogging. :P

Well, not totally correct, I’ve seen a lot of blogger who is quite slow in knowing the latest stuff…
but yes, if they follow a certain niche of blog, they’ll become faster knowing these website/gadget.
So, it depends on what they surf everyday…
=), I hesitate a lot when trying new website,
I just don’t like their database contains my email…

Sayz – That is a totally true point that I left out. I think that this is probably only true for MMO and tech bloggers.
