Thanks for the inspiration, especially point number 2

I'm somewhat similar in that when I'm starting a new project, I can go for a couple of days with no food or sleep and just focus on working on the project and seeing it through to completion but then I hit a certain level (i.e. the site is built, launched, and waiting for content) and I lose interest. The same goes for other "offline" projects as well.

Nicks last blog post..<a href="http://www.romandock.com/im-making-progress-eventually-ill-be-caught-up/" rel="nofollow">I’m making progress, eventually I’ll be caught up.</a>

I think it is better enough to have a contest in a blog to make it more interesting among our visitors. Am I correct?

I think there is a danger of taking ourselves too seriously so I like the idea of a humorous post. I like to keep it varied. I use video to poetry to quotes to anything really that inspires.

I will also try writing a post before I really know what the subject is. Now that could be fun...dangerous but why not.

Thanks for this

Thanks for the comments guys! a couple of you commented disagreeing with my first point.

While I see your points what I was trying to say was that a blog is an online journal, a diary as such on the topic of your choice. ie if its a blog about dogs then you are in theory writing a diary about your thoughts and ideas on dogs.

If you ever kept a journal or diary as a child you would know it is personal - your private thoughts and the things happening in your life. While I dont think a blog should necessarily go to that degree, I do think that our sole purpose of blogging should be portraying OUR thoughts, not the thoughts that we think our readers want to hear.

Personally I read other peoples blogs because I want to know what other people are thinking, not because I want them to say something that will make be feel warm and fuzzy because what they are saying agrees with what im thinking.

Any more thoughts on this point?

Hey Tom!

This post is not just good sense, it is creative sense! Thanks for the heads up on this; if we are not enjoying our blogs, then what the heck ARE we there for?

I blog mainly for the interaction, and you have highlighted the things that create interaction - particularly #2, with your 'liven it up' ideas!

:-)

While I agree that we should keep blogging for fun, I beg to disagree with tip # 1.

Blogging for yourself can be fun but this may lessen your visitors because most readers do not care about who we are, but what they can learn from us. If we want many visitors, we must give them what they need and NOT what we want to give them.

Just my 2 cents.
