3 Reasons You Need To Make The Occasional Personal Post

Hey guys! Sorry for the lack of posting over the weekend. My computers keyboard is dying and sprays random letters when I type so I am ow writing this off my mums laptop. I will try to catch up with emails as soon as I can.

Considering my last post was a personal post I was a bit worried that I left you all on a bit of a weak note and tat my traffic would start dropping. But you guys surprised me and found something that you connected with and that post (11 Things I Do On Lazy Days…) and I saw an influx of traffic and over 1000 visitors to that post alone and 32 comments.

I had previously been against person posts in professional blogs, but this has made me have a change of heart. I have found 3 great reason that you need to atleast make the occasional personal blog post.

1. People Want To Know You Are Just Like Them
Have you even wondered how the bloggers are behind your favourite blogs? Sure about pages are good but everyone wants to know that you are infact human and not just a computer pushing out helpful tips. People relate to your personal posts!

2. To Shake Things Up A Bit
If you do something for too long people start getting board. Even if you content is fantastic people like variety. Think of if you had your favourite meal every day for 30 days straight. Would it still be your favourite meal? So spice up your posts a bit and throw in a side of personal posts.

3. For The Boosted Traffic
Considering this post has almost been my most popular post ever in regard to unique views and comments, I can now definately se the benefits of writing personal posts. I think the main reason this post was so popular was because it was so real. I was something that people could relate too and therefore they enjoyed reading.

Hopefully I can get back into the swing of posting shortly – as soon as I get myself a new keyboard!

Well, an occasional personal post in professional blogs doesn’t harm, on the contrary has you’ve seen.
It is fresh air for the blog.
Readers like to know a bit more about who you are, and what do you usually do.

I love reading personal posts because it really allows you to connect with the author.

I also like writing them because your readers will have a better chance to connect with you.

Good luck with finding a new keyboard too, my last one I bought was $50, a little expensive, but it got the job done. :).

Hey, I agree that it is always nice to have personal posts. People love to see that you are just like them. My blog is mostly all personal posts, but believe it or not it still manages to get decent traffic.

Good post about lazy days, those are my favorite.

I am still mad at you for mentioning Facebook Tycoon. That is one addicting game.

Yeah, it’s good to get a personal touch with the person behind the computer. I’m really dying for #3! Lol.

Sorry to hear about your keyboard…at least they are relatively inexpensive and easy to replace!

I agree that personal posts can be good and a good way to connect with readers and also get your regulars of your “niche” blog to visit your personal site!

Good stuff Tom, it’s good to see things like that.
People like to know what you do…it’s cool. I think one of my popular posts was when I posted pics from my daughter’s birthday! Maybe it was the pizza lol…

I thought I had almost quit personal posts, but I will do one today. I was waiting for this post, for I knew you had not stopped, and I kept checking my email and there it was finally.

Nice post, I agree with points 1 and 2, but I have to disagree with 3. Sometimes, personal posts don’t get as much attention as how-to’s/informational posts. :)

finally got myself a new keyboard.. cost me $9.95 :D

Lucas my stats will disagree with you considering that post was my second most popular post ever.

Glad that you found yourself a new keyboard. Sounds pretty cheap to me, but I don’t know the prices of keyboards these days.

That is the exact reason I don’t like reading popular blogs, it’s like a robot is writing everything…

I can never go without having to post personal updates! Like you said, it’s important to let your readers know that we are all alike. Everyone has a life too right? :P
