Well StandOutBlogger.com has officially been live now for 24hours, and what an eventful 24hours it has been. Here are the statistics:
- 1 Blog Post
- 143 Unique Visitors
- Got Stumbled (Which accounted for 91 unique visits)
All in all I think it was a successful first day. I won’t say successful launch, because I think you cannot tell whether a launch has been successful for at least a month – maybe more. But want I want to share with you today is just a few keys that I have learnt from launching my last blog that helped me achieve the result I got yesterday. Because even though I couldn’t know I would get stumbled, I set myself up in a good position to be, by they way I promoted it.
3 Things To Get Traffic Streaming To Your Brand New Blog
1. Use Forums
I am a member of a couple of forums, but especially for ‘Make Money Online’ (MMO) blogs, DigitalPoint is my favourite. Not just because it is targetted at internet business and making money online but I absolutely love the fact that you can list you latest blog article into all your blog posts. Like this:

This I have found previously to be a great source of traffic if you are active in the forum. So one of the first things I did after publishing my first post was to change the rss feed to StandOutBlogger – and start posting.
The posts were not anything special or a waste of time. All I was doing was selling a few templates I had lying around and trying to find a coder for my new blog design, so it doesn’t have to be anything special.
Another forum that I only signed up with yesterday was Blog Premiere, which is the creation of fellow blogger Jason (The University Kid). So far it seems to be a tight knit community and everyone seems willing to help their fellow bloggers out – so definitely check it out!
2. Comment Blogs
When I start a new blog, I go crazy for the first couple of weeks commenting as many blogs as I can – to get the word out about my blog. Obviously I don’t go around saying ‘I have a new blog called StandOutBlogger.com, you should check it out, because that is spam and it would be worthless. What I do is write quality comments, related to the post and just let my name link back to my blog.
Most bloggers will visit your website when they approve your comment, but a little tip here is to make yourself sound like you are really interested in their post. Don’t be fake but be selfless, talking about them, because it will do wonders for their ego and they will most likely return the favour by commenting you.
Where To Go To Find Blogs
I know there are a lot of blog lists out there, but there is only one that I visit. 45n5.com along with great posts has 2 very helpful features for bloggers looking to promote their blog.
Not only do they have their top 100 bloggers list (which actually has over 340 blogs on its list) which is more than enough to get you started (I usually just start at the top and work my way down), but they also have something called ‘MoneyLinks‘ which is a list of all the latest blog posts from blogs that have signed up.
You shouldn’t run out of blogs to comment for a fair while, but even if you do I am sure your blog will be reaping the benefits. However if you are still looking for more blogs to comment something else I do is when I am at one blog leaving a comment is that I will see who else is commenting there – and check out their blogs and comment.
3. Name Drop Other Bloggers
In every single post I make, I try to mention and link to at least one fellow blogger. I do this mainly for 2 reasons:
- Because I want to tank them and reward them for something they have said/done
- Because there is a pretty good chance they will leave a comment, and who knows they might even return the favour by saying something about you on their blog.
Obviously a great example of this is what I have just done with 45n5.com. Something they created has been beneficial to me and I believe my readers would also benefit from it, plus if I know Mark (Owner of 45n5.com), he will at least drop in to say hi (please don’t let me down Mark!)
Launching A Blog Is Hard Work
I won’t deny this. But I believe if you take the above three steps and put them into action you will be setting yourself up for success. All you need then is to make sure your content makes them want to stay!
This has been another fun post to write and I hope you were able to get something out of it. If you are looking to make sure your blog Stands Out front he crowd and is successful, consider subscribing to our feed or email updates to make sure you don’t miss a thing!

Another quality post! Thanks for referring me to 45n5. And I am ready to try to help someone launching a blog.
Thanks for the mention mate.
Three fairly easy ways to get visitors to your blog – targeted visitors. Although you can get more being stumbled etc, their conversion rate will likely be poor quality :)
Congrats…Good luck on your blogging… =)
I take what you say to heart and NO WAY will I be saying that your post starts out with the statement that you have had 6 comments so far, and yet this post I am doing is only number four. That would be unsporting, so I won’t do it.
Your advice seems to be very much to the point though.
Cheers – Rhys
Dude Rhys, Tom means 6 comments on the blog total, this was the second post. When he was writing it there is no way that there could have been 6 comments on a post he hadn’t published!
Hey buddy. He he, nice to see you only appeared interested in my post so that’s why you commented lol. Anyways, good to see your writing skills, they’re above decent, same with the domain name, great pick. I’m concerned about the very common look of the Passion Due though.
Anyways, stop by any time, look for tedsgame on StumbleUpon, Digg and Mixx.

I meant Passion Duo. Tired.
thanks ted. You will notice I now have a custom blog design!
I agree that it is very important to name-drop. One thing you should caution people though is that name dropping and linking to big names like Shoemoney and John Chow will often times not have the same effect as linking to a smaller blog like Thomas Sinfield because they get so many linkbacks that they just don’t have time to check them all out and comment on all of them.
