Outsource Link Building – Under $3/hr
Considering the feedback that I received from my cheap article writers post, I am covering my face with my hands in anticipation for the tomatoes – but here goes.
I have been reading Timothy Ferriss’ “The 4-Hour Workweek‘ and one of the key things he talks about in the book is AUTOMATION and OUTSOURCING.
So I took at a look at the jobs I was doing for my websites to see what some of the tasks where that I could get other people to do to free my time and I thought ‘why not outsource link building?‘
Why Would I Outsource Link Building?
For my niche blogs my main goal is search engine traffic, because once I set it up and am ranking well I don’t have to worry about blog commenting, tweeting, or working hard to continually get new visitors.
But that means I have to spend a lot of time building the links back to my sites and in all honesty, it’s not all hard work – it’s just very tedious and time consuming (and they are the perfect type of jobs to outsource). So I guess it is quite obvious why I would want to outsource link building.
Where Do You Find Cheap Link Builders?
Since I had such a great experience with oDesk with my seo article writers test, I had no reason not to use them again to outsource my link building.
On oDesk I put in a assignment for:
Link Builder for 10 hours a week – with the opportunity to increase to full-time depending on results.
Nothing fancy, and I put the hourly rate to under $3/hr. (I know that sounds cheap, and to be honest I wasn’t expecting that many responses).
I Got Over 50 Job Applications!!
I couldn’t believe that there were that many people (most seem qualified) that were willing to work for under $3/hr – I actually got one offer at 57cents/hour!
Now I am not saying that all of these will be good at link building, that is why you ask for information and interview them prior to hiring them – but if they can prove they know what they are doing and are willing to work for the price you ask – then why wouldn’t you outsource link building to them?
I see this as another great opportunity to automate my online business and for a maximum of $30 a week to test this strategy – I would be silly not to try it. I will let you know my results!
Why not try oDesk to outsource link building for yourself? Start an assignment and see what type of job applications that you personally get!

An informative post on your interview process/questions/acceptable responses and so forth would be amazing.
Throw in article writing and anything else you outsource and it could be an ebook. ;)
I think this is a big place most first time outsources get fuzzy…OK I got names and prices, now what?
Know what I mean?

Well, outsourcing link builders is a must if you attack something like “tennis academy” or “fitness camp”, but for any low or medium competitive keyword or phrase, 1 person (that is you) is more than enough.
That’s just my 0.02$.

Dennis – That is a really good idea. I had been looking for a product idea that wasn’t the typical ‘make money online’ product, so I will keep that in mind.
Davor – While I do agree with you to a point, I am working on creating automation in my niche blogging where I start outsourcing all aspects. And to be honest if you can get someone to do link building so that you don’t have to (regardless of the keywords), it is giving you time to focus on finding new niches.

Hey Tom ~ I too have used Odesk and I had great results! I’ve hired a virtual assistant to set up a ton of social media accounts and I’ve hired a great programmer on there too. Both were very (very) reasonable and it saved me a ton of time and money. I need to power out some link building so thanks for the reminder. *huGs* Suzanne

For you to avail this kind of income in outsourcing you must have a good quality blog and also good link building. Suppose we have that both, thus you need to be more optimist for the result. In my opinion.

Hey Suzanne! Long time to talk. I just picked up a link builder so I will let you know how she goes!
Cheats – If you hire someone for $2 an hour for 10 hours a week, that is just $20 (you only have to make one decent affiliate sale a week to cover this).
I definitely think it is just a change of mindset, from this is a hobby, to this is a business.

Yeah, I have been using oDesk for a number of years. In fact, I use it for Paul and Angelas packets. You can have someone complete a packet for $2.22 an hour, sometimes cheaper…lol.
It is great and all the links will be put up using different IP’s which is awesome for SEO. Make sure you limit the number of hours though. I had someone try to run up the bill to 39 hours on me.
I disputed it and got my money back.

i totally agree with you. oDesk is the best place to outsource online jobs I have been doing it for long time :)

Wow, this has certainly give me light-bulbs in my head, I had always the wrong idea in my head, and thought that outsourcing would be much more expensive! With those kinds of prices, it gives me a whole new vision of outsourcing! :D

Hi Tom.
Good post. It’s something I need to do as well, because it is so necessary but time-consuming. There is one bit of the puzzle I think you left out however. What exactly do you get them to do. I’m thinking of Angela’s links at Warriorforum, or a couple others I could think of. Any other ideas?

This is great. I have a staff member who is responsible for online marketing, but I may give this a try. I guess the only difference is quality or quantity. I definitely do not allow low quality links to my business.

I’ve used various sites and odesk is definitely one of my favorite. The screenshot tool is fantastic as is their time tracking.
As a helpful tip to those with virtual assistants paid on an hourly basis, you may want to have your virtual staff install rescuetime and have them send you their time sheets. This allows you to have data on what they spend their time on. Obviously, it’s helpful to know the hours they’re working, but even moreso you can help them eliminate time-consuming tasks your assistants are doing that perhaps don’t need to be done – helping them manage their time.

I agree that $3 per hour may be a bit small, but in other countries, this means a lot, especially with the types of tasks done for it.

Thank you for this post. I was looking to outsource as much of the repetitive work as possible so that I can concentrate on other parts of my business.
I can’t say this enough… if you really want to grow your internet marketing income, then quality outsourcing is the way to go.
As a 1 man show, there is only so much you can do. I say outsource as much of the work as possible and invest your time/energy into the higher value tasks of your business.
5.27.2010
Totally! Link building takes so much time and at the end of the day leaving you with such little time focus on things that actually stretch your business. These tasks are perfect for outsourcing currently I’m paying for mine $2.50 HR I’m happy with the result.

I am also a link builder and offering many services for $2 per hour.we are charging less because we need more work and it doesnot mean that we wont work well.so we are trying to say is even though some of the link builders charge less we work very well.
