Killer Blog Posts – 10 Simple Steps!

Ever wondered why some bloggers seem to have all the success, while you are sitting there typing away post after post – with no one reading? Here are a few tips I have tested that have not only worked for me, but that I have seen implemented in the majority of the top blogs.

1. Chose Your topic Carefully – The best of writers can talk about anything and make it sound good, but why make it hard on yourself? choose a topic that you are passionate about, and let your enthusiasm show shine. It will compliment your writing style and make for a more interesting read.

2. Study The Topic – Read up on the subject your are about to write about. Find out what others have written, and let it spark some creativity in your mind.

3. Create A Killer Headline – This is the most important step of them all. In fact it should probably be point number one, because if people are intrigued by your headline, why would they read the rest of your post? Don’t be afraid to flaunt your headline, people don’t like bland and mundane.

4. Deliver The Content – Your headline has promised it – now deliver! There is nothing worse then reading the title of a article, thinking it is going to revolutionize the way you view a topic, only to find it is a boring ‘copy and past’ job, that has taken 2 minutes to throw together. This hits on point 2, make sure you study the subject so you can deliver the content!

5. Use Bullet Points – formatting is so important! People like structure, and bullet points make articles much easier to read, and also helps the readers retain the information by giving them the key points of the article.

6. Choose Photos Wisely – No one likes a bland blog, but that doesn’t mean just splashing a random photo here and there just for the sake of it. Make sure the images compliment the article.

7. Make Your Opinion Known – People read blogs because they are written by people, people with opinions. If they wanted a scientific explanation to something they would consult a textbook, so let your readers know what you think personally about the topic you are writing about.

8. Use Lists – I know there are so many top 10 lists and I’m sure everyone is getting sick of them, but the thing is, they work. A busy reader can easily scan the main points to see if its is of interest before deciding whether to read on.

9. Provoke Your Readers - If you want to really grab your readers attention you have to challenge the way they think, question their beliefs and push their buttons. So start your blog with a statement or challenge that will make your reader need to read the next couple of lines to make sure you said what they thought they read.

10. Don’t Go On Too Long – Say what needs to be said and then get out of there. No one likes a rambler. Enough said.

Are Bloggers Early Adopters?

I have been thinking about this alot recently.

Especially with a lot of my friends now all starting to get Twitter accounts. I mean, I had a Twitter account over 3 months ago and now I barely use it. But all of my friends are getting really excited about this ‘new’ website called Twitter – and they are all asking me how it works!

Are Bloggers Early Adopters?

I think there are a couple of reasons why bloggers seem to know about new websites and tools a long time before everyone one else.

  1. Bloggers Spend A Lot More Time On The Internet
This is probably the biggest reason, because obviously the more time you spend on something the more you are aware of everthing that is happening.
  2.  Companies Use Blogs For Promotion
Especially with new websites, big companies know the power of blogs. If they can get one or two bigger bloggers to talk about it, then they are sure to get many of their readers to blog about it also. So this is why bloggers seem to know about websites before everyone else, because they are part of the promotion methods that makes a website famous.
  3. Bloggers Love To Try New Things
A lot of people are scared of what is new, and only want to use something when it has been tried and tested. Not bloggers! They want the latest and greatest. They are always looking to test the newest marketing methods, the next product that will help them improve their blogging. Bloggers are futurests, visionaries!

What new products or websites have you been using that haven’t become ‘popular’ yet? I’d love to hear any comments you have on websites that bloggers used a long time before the rest of the population!!!

My New Sumo Beanbag Is Bigger Than Our Dining Table!

Hey guys! Got something really cool to show you today. A couple of weeks ago I got an email from Andrew the founder of Sumo Lounge saying that he was expanding his company into Australia and being a fan of this blog would love to offer me an Omni Beanbag!

Obviously whenever I get offered something for free I get excited, but when I visited their website and saw how big the beanbag actually was, I got really excited! The website says that it is 5 1/2 feet by 4 1/2 feet in size – numbers don’t do justice for most people so I decided to get my fiance to sit on it to give you a better idea of how big this bean bag actually is!

My new Omni Sumo Lounge is almost as big as a bed, and to be completely honest I got so excited when it arrived at my door that the same night I decided to ditch my bed and sleep on my new bean bag – and it defiantely passes as a spare bed.

This beanbag could not have come at a better time, as it came the same day that I proposed to my fiance, so when it arrived I messaged her saying,

“My beanbag arrived!!!!!! We now have our first piece of furniture :D”

Now I know it just looks like a regular beanbag, but the thing I love about it is that there are so many different ways for you to sit/lay on it! So using my fiance as our model for the day here are a few of the ways I love to use my new Sumo Omni!

The Sofa/Lounge

When we get married and find a place of our own to live we won’t even need a sofa! Lean this beanbag up against a wall and you have a 2 person sofa.

The Seat

One chair short in a discussion? Pull up your Sumo Lounge and you will have everyone wanting to trade seats with you!

The Extra Bed

Who needs a spare mattress under the bed for when friends come over, when you have your Sumo Beanbag? Flatten it out and just give them a pillow and planket. Quick and easy, and extremely comfy!

The Body Pillow

I didn’t know what to call this one, but it kinda reminds me of one of those really long pillows that you lay on and stick between your legs, so I called it the Body Pillow. this one is especially good with watching my tv, as we have a rear projection tv and if you are laying on the ground then the picture is hard to see. So this position gives you so height and is very comfortable!

Horse Riding?

I had some friends over to watch a movie the other night and I tried this one out – and absolutely loved it! While everyone had a laugh at how funny I looked, it seriously is awesome. While you still have the soft beanbag feel, you also have a very strong back support!

How Much?

Now you have seen how much fun these beanbags are, I’m sure you are curious to know how much it will cost you to have one of your one?!  Well Sumo have a range of different sizes for their bean bags (check out the GIGANTOR!) but for the one that I got – The Sumo Omni, you are able to buy one through their website for $149! (And did I mention FREE SHIPPING!) :D

I think that this is a great value consider the many different ways that you can use it. I mean we were looking at sofa’s the other day and the cheapest they seem to be is $400. This means that we can just use our Sumo Lounge as our sofa for a while and save $250.

Fiona and I love my Sumo Lounge!

And I’m not just saying that. Ever since it arrived, Fiona always wants to just come over and watch a movie and lay on the beanbag – probably when we should be doing wedding planning!! These things are the coolest pieces of funiture I have seen, and I can wait to move out now and have just two items of funiture in my lounge room – a TV and my Sumo Lounge!
